Different universities use different rules to convert CGPA to percentage. Here are the major formulas you'll see in 2026:
Percentage = CGPA × 25
Used by most HEC-recognized Pakistani universities — UET Lahore, UET Taxila, NED, COMSATS, FAST, GIKI, IBA, LUMS.
Percentage = (CGPA × 25) − 12.5
Unique to NUST Islamabad for HEC equivalence — accounts for NUST's stricter relative grading curve.
Percentage = CGPA × 10
Used by AMU, SPPU, Anna University, VTU 2022 scheme — simple direct multiplication.
Percentage = (CGPA − 0.75) × 10
Used by JNTUH and JNTUK (R16/R18/R22/R23), AKTU, VTU 2018 scheme.
Percentage = (CGPA − 0.5) × 10
Used by JNTU Anantapur for all current regulations, and by Gujarat Technological University.
Percentage = CGPA × 9.5
Used by CBSE Board (Class 10/12) and Delhi University under the CBCS scheme.
Percentage = 7.1 × CGPA + 11
Unique linear regression formula per MU Circular No. G4/of/2018.
Piecewise mapping to 4.0 GPA
Used by WES & ECE for credential evaluation — different conversion brackets, 90%+ → 4.0, 80-89% → 3.7, etc.
If you're applying to universities or jobs abroad, you'll typically need to convert your CGPA to the US 4.0 GPA scale that most North American institutions use. We've built three dedicated international tools to make this easy:
For UK, German, Australian and Singaporean university applications, most institutions accept the standard CGPA × 10 percentage with a note explaining your university's grading scale. Some prestigious universities require WES, ECE or IQAS evaluation reports.
Common questions about CGPA, GPA and percentage conversion in 2026.
GPA (Grade Point Average) is the credit-weighted average of grade points for a single semester or academic term. CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) is the weighted average across all completed semesters. Both are computed using credit-weighted formulas, but CGPA reflects overall academic performance across the entire degree program. In India and Pakistan, SGPA is often used interchangeably with GPA for one semester, while CGPA always refers to the cumulative figure.
Yes. Every calculator uses the latest official formula published by the respective university and regulatory bodies (HEC, UGC, AICTE) as of 2026. Each individual university page documents the exact formula source and applicable regulation/scheme. We continuously update our tools when policies change, so you can trust the result to match your official transcript when you use the correct preset.
No, formulas vary significantly. Most Pakistani universities use Percentage = CGPA × 25 on the HEC 4.0 scale. Indian engineering universities use different rules: VTU 2018 scheme uses (CGPA − 0.75) × 10, VTU 2022 scheme uses CGPA × 10, AKTU uses (CGPA − 0.75) × 10, JNTUH/JNTUK use (CGPA − 0.75) × 10, but JNTUA uses (CGPA − 0.5) × 10. AMU and SPPU use CGPA × 10, while CBSE and DU use CGPA × 9.5. Always verify your specific university's formula.
Because each university uses a different formula. For example, a CGPA of 8.0 maps to: 75% under JNTUA (×10 − 5), 72.5% under JNTUH/JNTUK (×10 − 7.5), 80% under VTU 2022 scheme (×10), 76% under Delhi University (×9.5), 67.8% under Mumbai University (7.1 × CGPA + 11). The same numerical CGPA can produce very different percentages depending on the formula — which is why using the right calculator for your university matters.
You can use them to estimate your percentage and fill in application forms (UPSC, SSC, IBPS, RBI Grade B, FPSC, PPSC, APPSC, TSPSC, KPSC). However, for the final official submission, always obtain an authentic CGPA-to-percentage conversion certificate from your university's examination branch — this is the document recognised by government bodies and HR teams for verification.
Use our CGPA to 4.0 GPA Converter for instant results. It supports two methods: the standard linear formula ((CGPA ÷ 10) × 4) used in most undergraduate applications, and the WES bracket method required by some US and Canadian universities and credential evaluators. For official submissions to overseas universities, some prestigious institutions also require WES or ECE evaluation reports.
